What’s a “testimony?”

When you bring up the subject of “testimonies,” someone will always say “I don’t have a good testimony.” But what does that mean? That God didn’t rescue you from as much sin as that other guy?

Every believer has a testimony, and every believer should genuinely believe, like Paul, that God rescued him or her from the darkest place of all. I was born in 1983 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the buckle of the “Bible belt,” where going to church was as common as the mullet. But going to church doesn’t save you, Christ does; and as a young man, I found myself in the darkest place of all…. I thought I was doing pretty well.

God knew my heart, and he knew how to break through my arrogance and ignorance. Over a period of decades he has continued to show me his grace and glory, and after years in the service of the King, I’ve come to recognize that my testimony is just beginning!
